Dry Needling

Dry Needling has helped increase patients’ range of motion while relieving pain and reducing tension in the muscles. Common conditions this technique has helped alleviate include Tendinitis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Sciatica, sports-related injuries and post-operative pain, to name a few.¬†Austin Preferred Integrative Medicine offers two variations of the treatment through Physical Therapists Alicia Poche and Kristin Jarrett.

Variations:

Trigger Point Dry Needling is a treatment technique during which needles are inserted from different angles at myofascial trigger points. This modality targets contraction knots in soft tissues of the affected areas, which can perpetuate the pain cycle.

During Integrative Dry Needling, the physical therapist inserts fine filaments into the skin, allowing them to create a natural reaction that increases circulation and stimulates the body’s natural healing process.

Patients interested in this form of treatment should first come in for an initial evaluation with our medical providers. Treatment plans typically incorporate other physical therapy modalities in addition to Dry Needling. Treatment plans vary in length and frequency due to the body part and nature of the injury.
