Myofascial Release
What Is Myofascial Release Therapy?
Myofascial release is a type of soft tissue therapy used to treat tension and dysfunction in the body. It can be beneficial for pain management, rehabilitation, and restoring optimal functioning. Myofascial release consists of several active approaches such as active release technique (ART), Graston technique, and Fascial Distortion Model (FDM). ART is a hands-on treatment that uses pressure to break up fibrous adhesions and restore normal movement. Graston technique utilizes specially designed tools to massage deep into the muscles to uncover areas of restriction. Lastly, FDM targets specific layers of fascial tissue aiming to improve mobility, restore range-of-motion, reduce swelling, and alleviate pain. Myofascial release is a dedicated approach that requires skill and experience in order to engage the unique needs of each patient.
